The Royal Queensland Show, also known as the Ekka, runs for 10 days in August each year. It is a showcase of all things agricultural, pastoral and industrial as well as a huge entertainment draw card for people in the Brisbane City and nearby regional areas. The public holiday for Brisbane City is on the Wednesday of the show and is either the second or third Wednesday in August depending on if there are four or five Wednesdays. The holiday is known as People’s Day. Regional areas around Brisbane have their public holiday on the Monday of the show.
