Mahavir Jayanti

The ancient spiritual, religious and philosophical tradition of Jainism is of Indian origin and Jains follow the teachings of 24 saints (‘Jinas’) known as Tirthankaras. The 24th Tirthankara is Lord Mahavira and this important day commemorates his birth. Jain philosophy focuses on things such as metaphysics, reality, cosmology and divinity, and its ethical code includes non-violence, truth and non-attachment.

Outside India, the US, UK, East Africa, Canada and Australia have large or growing Jain communities.
