St Francis’ Feast Day

St Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, birds, the environment, Italy and these things are honoured by Catholic churches on St Francis’ Feast Day. St Francis was a Roman Catholic friar and was renowned for his love of animals; tales of his humility and charity toward the natural world still abound. It is said that on his deathbed, St Francis paid special thanks to his donkey for carrying him and helping him throughout his life and, with these words, the donkey wept.
