Justin brings to the Symmetra team experience of over 35 years working in the fields of Indigenous Health, Housing and Social Programs. This provides a broad range of expertise and practice across diversity in workplaces, learning institutions and professional services. In addition to extensive teaching and lecturing qualifications in Management, Training, Governance, Leadership and Health provide a strong theoretical basis for his work and proximity to the latest approaches and techniques.
As a proud Dunghutti man based in Sydney, Australia, this experience is both professional and personal. For almost four decades this has provided opportunities to learn from Elders and cultural wisdom, create new approaches, match with new technology and learning systems and focus clearly on the fundamental needs of patients, students, consumers and services.
His passion for engaging with disparate communities, diverse workforces and wide-ranging professional groups has enabled the development of national and international initiatives across critical program and policy arenas.
Justin has been successful in creating, delivering and evaluating leadership and workforce development initiatives across community, government and corporate sectors. This includes specific expertise in developing First Nations leaders, professional capacity, cultural competency, cultural safety, recruitment pathways, workplace culture reviews, research and evaluation practice. He has facilitated myriad community leadership and governance programs, including the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Group, National Youth Roundtable, QLD Indigenous Youth Leadership Program, and Youth 2020 Summit.
In addition, Justin has worked across government sectors including Health, Disability and Ageing, National Indigenous Housing Policy Partnership, Health Care Complaints Commission, CSIRO, Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children, National Disability Insurance Agency, Health Education Training Institute, Mental Health Commission and Sydney Children’s Hospital. Corporate clients have included Qantas, Westpac, Commonwealth Bank and Accor and numerous university collaborations.
Working with peak agencies and the community sector is an essential component of Justin’s work and this includes major organisations such as The Lowitja Institute, NATSIHA, Gayaa Dhuwi, The Healing Foundation, IAHA, NACCHO, IPEPA, AHNT, and ACHIA.
