“Organisations don’t change because someone told them to. They change because someone helped them see what they couldn’t, or wouldn’t, see before. That’s my work; I am an agent of awareness.”
Tony Belgrave brings a wealth of experience to the Symmetra team as OD consultant, DEI strategist, leadership facilitator, and executive coach with over 25 years of doing the work most organisations say they want but aren’t quite prepared for: the deep, structural, occasionally uncomfortable kind that actually moves the needle.
Born and raised in the UK with Caribbean roots and married to a Zimbabwean, Tony has personally navigated the gap between the culture you come from and the culture organisations expect you to perform. That gap, it turns out, is exactly where his best work happens. Working through a Gestalt and social identity lens, he doesn’t just run programmes; he changes the conversation. Not passive acceptance. Not performative allyship. The real thing.
Over the past 25 years, Tony has held senior transformation and performance roles at GlaxoSmithKline, partnered with the University of Queensland on the development and delivery of the Social Identity Leadership Programme at the House of Commons (UK) and Exeter University, and led on one of the UK’s largest positive action pathways for senior civil servants.
He has built inclusive leadership programmes for Barclays UK and BP, designed and delivered reciprocal mentoring programmes across the NHS covering gender and ethnicity since 2018, and worked across financial services, pharma, energy, the Civil service, higher education, NGOs and the arts, with international delivery spanning the US, Asia, Europe and Africa including a change leadership programme for the Botswana Office of the President.
He is a certified OD practitioner through the National Training Laboratories (NTL), featured in Forbes magazine on systemic leadership and diversity, and a co-founding member of the BME OD and Change Network London.
He has been a keynote speaker at the Universities HR Annual Summit, Zoological Society of London Annual Conference, and BMW UK Speaker Season. Tony is the author of Lost in Transition, a guide for leaders finding their feet fast in new high-stakes roles (launching September 2026).
Outside work, Tony plays saxophone, vibe codes, and loses gracefully at board games with his family.
