In this module examine unconscious bias towards individuals with disabilities and practical steps for fostering workplace inclusivity.
Our brains tend to categorise people as “us” and “them” when we perceive differences. This unconscious bias can result in exclusion for individuals with disabilities and as such, it is crucial we address this bias in order to create a truly inclusive workplace culture.
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Define disability and distinguish between visible and hidden disability
- Recognise how an ableist mindset creates barriers for people with disability
- Explain how attitude and choices can enable or disable others
- Overcome bias and barriers to access and inclusion
- Use specific words and actions to promote inclusivity
